Number and Date Fields

**6. Number**

Numeric input only. Use for: jersey number preference, years of experience, age.

Date picker. Use for: date of birth, availability start date, certification expiry.

Time picker. Use for: preferred training slot, pickup time for travel arrangements.

Selection Fields

**9. Dropdown**

Single selection from a list. Use for: playing role, skill level, t-shirt size, dietary preference.

Example: "Primary playing role" with options: Batsman, Bowler, All-Rounder, Wicketkeeper.

**10. Multi-Select**

Multiple selections from a list. Use for: available match days, positions willing to play, languages spoken.

Example: "Which weekends are you available?" with options for each tournament weekend.

**11. Radio Buttons**

Single selection displayed as buttons. Use for: yes/no questions with more than two options, or small option sets where all choices should be visible.

**12. Checkbox**

Single yes/no toggle. Use for: consent confirmations, policy acceptance, opt-in questions.

Rich Content Fields

**13. File Upload**

File attachment. Use for: ID proof, medical certificate, age proof, team logo.

Example: "Upload a photo of your school ID (for age verification)"

**14. Image Upload**

Image-specific upload with preview. Use for: player headshot, action photo, passport photo.

Example: "Upload a recent photo (will be used on your player card during auction)"

Special Fields

**15. Section Header**

Not an input - a visual divider that groups related fields. Use to organize long forms into logical sections: "Personal Details," "Playing Information," "Medical & Emergency."

**16. Terms & Conditions**

A special checkbox with expandable text content. The player must accept the terms to complete registration. Use for: tournament rules acceptance, code of conduct, liability waiver.

**17. Description/Info Block**

Display-only text block - no input required. Use to provide context or instructions between fields.

Example: "The following section is optional but helps us create balanced teams during the auction."

Building an Effective Registration Form

The Rule of 12

Registration forms with more than 12-15 input fields see a significant drop-off in completion rates. Every additional field you add costs you registrations. Before adding a field, ask: "Will I actually use this data, or am I collecting it just in case?"

Smart Ordering

Put easy fields first (name, phone, email), complex fields in the middle (role selection, availability), and sensitive fields last (medical info, consent). Players who've already invested 2 minutes filling in basic info are less likely to abandon the form at the medical section.

Required vs. Optional

Mark only essential fields as required. Name and phone? Required. Jersey size? Required if you're ordering jerseys. Preferred batting position? Optional - nice to have, but don't block registration over it.

Help Text

Use help text to clarify ambiguous fields. "Phone Number" is clear. "Emergency Contact" needs help text: "Please provide a number for someone who will NOT be at the tournament." Good help text reduces support messages.
