How to Run a Cricket Player Auction for Your League

A player auction turns a corporate or society cricket league into an event people talk about, and it spreads talent across teams so the league stays competitive. Done badly, it runs for four hours and ends with one stacked team. Here is how to run one that is fair and finishes on time.
1. Fix the purse and squad size
Give every team owner the same purse in points or virtual rupees, and set a minimum and maximum squad size. A common setup is 1,000 points per team and 11 to 14 players. The purse must cover the minimum squad at base price, or the last owners to bid will be stuck.
2. Register players and put them in categories
Collect each player's name, role (batter, bowler, all-rounder, wicket-keeper) and a skill grade. Grade them into sets such as A, B and C, with a base price for each set. Auction set A first so the strongest players are spread early.
3. Agree the bidding rules
Write these down and read them out before the first lot:
Bid increments (for example 10 points up to 200, then 20 points)
Time per lot (a 30-second countdown that resets on each bid keeps things moving)
What happens to unsold players (a second round at base price, or allocation at the end)
Retentions or icon players, if any, and what they cost from the purse
A cap per category, so no team buys four wicket-keepers
4. Run the auction live
Show the player, base price, current bid and each team's remaining purse on one screen everyone can see. Owners bid from their phones or by raising a paddle, and the auctioneer confirms each sale out loud. A visible purse stops bids a team can't afford. ZPLYS Player Auction runs this live, with real-time bidding, player pools and each team's budget tracked as bids come in.
5. Lock squads and move straight to fixtures
Once every squad is full, publish the team lists and generate the league fixtures the same day, while interest is high.

With 30-second lots and about 100 players, plan for 90 minutes to 2 hours including unsold rounds.

Many leagues charge a registration fee per player and a franchise fee per team owner; set this before registration opens.
Can we run the auction online?
Yes. Owners can bid remotely as long as everyone sees the same live board and purse.
